Amy Meya

Kansas City, Missouri

Amy Meya, a Kansas City-based ceramics artist, has loved working with clay since her first introduction to the medium in kindergarten. Inspired by nature, Asian textiles, and Spanish tile architecture, Meya’s tiles often feature intricate patterns and textures, as well as elements from nature. “Birds are one of my favorite subject matters,” says Amy, “they supply metaphors for so many aspects of life." After creating each bird’s basic form, she uses sea shells to add wing and facial details. She adds texture to her tile pieces with her own handmade clay stamps and rolling pins. A mostly self-taught ceramics artist, Amy has been a professional ceramicist since 2004.
